The Story
From side project to saving lids
What started as a personal side project—repainting my own helmet—quickly became something bigger. After seeing the result, the guys I worked with began handing me their lids and saying, "Let me know when it's done." The rest is history.
Before I ever touched helmets, I spent years restoring trucks and heavy equipment at a gravel company. That hands-on experience gave me a head start when it came to bringing helmets back to life—especially when it came to sanding, refinishing, and attention to detail.
From day one, the goal was simple: keep these lids alive. Whether it's helping someone get to retirement in their original lid or restoring a helmet that holds decades of history, I've always cared more about preserving its character than making it look factory-new. A few imperfections are part of the story.
Every helmet that comes through the shop gets treated with respect. Some go back on the rig. Some go in display cases. Some go on the mantle of a firefighter who earned every scratch on it. No matter where it ends up, every lid has a story to tell—and I'm here to help it keep telling it.

“The quality of the leather helmet is exceptional—every detail meticulously crafted to reflect the pride and dedication that goes into the fire service. Soberg has beautifully captured the essence of experience and hard work within their products.”— Hugh Devlin, Lieutenant
